Crunchy, Sweet with a hint of Saltiness! One of the most commonly reach-out snack on the goodies table. Sold at a slightly pricier tag but who can resist buying and indulge in these little gems.
Now you make it at the comfort of your home – less the oil and less the price too!
These mini rolls do come with a price – an effort to roll them before Air frying. A little bit of patience and time required.
Grab a chair, switch on the TV and roll it while watching TV. I took a while – like an hour – to roll 1 tub of mini rolls. However, you know that your effort is definitely worth it when the crispy popiah skin break into pieces the moment you bite it.
I use the smaller popiah skin and cut each piece of popiah skin into 4 smaller pieces.
Cover the unused wrapper with wet cloth as it will dry up and will become very brittle.
Ok… now on how to wrap…
1/2 of teaspoon of pork floss per wrapper and place it at the lower end like this.
Use beaten egg to seal the edges of the roll. Brush a bit of egg mixture onto the lower top of the skin
Fold the lower ends of the skin up to form a double triangle like this
Brush the 2 left and right edges of the skin with egg mixture
And fold the sides inwards to form an envelope
After that, start to roll tightly and seal the top edges with egg mixture
Try to have the sealed edge facing down while rolling the remaining floss rolls
Lay the rolls onto a tray and brush them lightly with oil
Layered them into the basket without overlapping. Divide into batches to air fry.
- ½ packet of small spring roll pastry (125 mm x 125 mm ) - quartered
- 150g of pork floss
- 2 tablespoon oil
- 1 beaten egg
- Preheat the air fryer at 180 degree Celsius (5 mins before frying)
- Add 1 teaspoon of pork floss to every quartered pieces of popiah skin
- Roll and seal as per the instruction in the post
- Lay the rolls onto a tray and lightly brush with oil
- Air fry the rolls for 8 mins at 180 degree celcius (divide the roll into batches for air frying)
- Pull out the basket and shake halfway during frying (or use a tong to "stir") so that any overlay bits will be air fried too
- Cool and store in air tight container
